Worth It - New Voltz series coming out soon

For those of you who don't already know, which is probably all two of you, I've been working with a group called Midcore on some videos and we've just recently started releasing what amounts to their 3rd series in war, destruction, and a lack of parental supervision.  Needless to say, good times for all.  I joined them just as they got into series two about a half a year ago and since then we've been helping push each other make better and better content.

Tomorrow I'm going to be releasing a sort of spinoff from the series three.  It will happen in concert with the primary series but from my angle and with my own style.  It will all be canon and contribute as much as possible to the greater story.

What compels me to write today is that the work is pretty much finished.  I'm rendering it as we speak for the second time after I spotted some glitches that needed to be reworked from the first pass.  It took near a week to finish and I got to say that I've never been more proud, frustrated or exausted with anything I've done but I'm glad its done.  I hope that it is well received when it's released because unlike some series that me or midcore has done in the past this wasn't any sort of job that was done start to finish in an hour, no, this took work, a lot of it.  Most the time going into hammering out details, shining up parts that looked shit, and experementing with things I didn't really know how to do until I figured it out or came up with something better.

When the video comes out in the next day or two, I hope that you enjoy it and please comment.  It doesn't seem like much but when you've a small audience a single comment or two can make it all worth it.

Appeasing the YouTube - Quick Thoughts

Proud that I've been able to keep up on my don't starve series but I don't think honestly that's going to do anything on its own.  It's like filler with nothing to stuff it into, I need something that some people can actually use for these games.

If you want to get more views on YouTube you need to do a few things.  While granted I always feel proud and want more subscriptions I also just want to put out something people will find entertaining or maybe engaging.  Here's my short list of collected thoughts on how to help a channel thrive.

1. Regular Updates - It seems so simple but at the same time I have struggled immensely with it.  You need to be predictable, be consistent, keep people engaged and not stagnate otherwise you're going to end up dropped when someone decides to clean out all those 'dead channels' they watched.

2. Real Content - This is what I've been mulling over for a while.  I like my don't starve series and I'm getting better just by doing it but it doesn't offer anything other than a chuckle here or there.  If you want to engage more people you should consider offering a little more.  Offer up advice or how to guides.  Just think of how many people go threw the wiki every day and in some cases the wiki's link popular how to guides.  That could be your how to guide link!

3. Participate - There are threads out there that discuss these games, and there are other you tubers who make videos and roam the net.  Leaving comments on other channels or participating in forums is a good way to get traffic.  I don't mean spamming 'check out my channel' on every other channel you visit.  Sadly that may work but it might just get you more negative attention being a dick move really.  Simply leaving a good comment and participating can help.  A good profile picture and signature couldn't hurt either.

4. Interact - This is just something new I'm thinking about.  It seems important that you need to engage and interact with your audience.  Figure out how they heard about you and find out what they like.  Keep in mind you shouldn't ever slave to their interests as its more important that you stay interested in your channel than anyone else.  If you can do something special for your viewers they might help bring you more traffic.  Simple things like engaging with questions, doing pulls, or offering to put someone or some idea into the video.  Anything fun really will work.

5. Go Pro - Don't release any personal garbage.  Nobody wants to hear your drama unless it winds up on cable or better yet the six o'clock news.  So unless you're screaming 'leave Britney alone' and want people to laugh at you, you're really just unloading drama onto people who ultimately have nothing to do with it nor really care for the most part.  Though I will grant I've seen a very select 'few' cases where people need to discuss something semi serious or explain a lack of content.  They can end up better off for it but that's still risky to unload on the collective mind that is the internet.  I'm thinking mostly high school level 'he said she said' drama should be avoided.

And that's where I am on this right now.

6 days off in a row?  Yup, back to school is over and I have to get something done.

I recently got into Don't Starve again for a lets play and kind of realized two things.  Finish what I start.  Not going to cut the series out after 3 episodes this time, gona keep going till I explode.

Second, I love Don't starve.  Games have developed this cool trend that works like free expansion packs.  Getting games early, via indie developers, kickstarter, etc, games keep growing and growing as they're being worked on.  I have a game that just keeps getting better, keeps changing and the replay value has gone threw the roof!

Already I play this game Don't Starve and have found so many things that I've never seen before.  In the famous words of Honeydew from Yogscast, "It's like a WHOOOOLE new game"

Bigger is Better

Not a lot of submissions this week.  I blame a social life which every now and then I like to pretend I have.

But besides that I'm wondering if constantly throwing games at the internet is a good idea or if I should slow down and submit a few more thought out ideas over longer stretches of time?  I don't know, its hard to say if that's a good idea or if I should just stop burning myself out so fast from one thing to another.  Anyway, some more citycraft soon, promise!

If fate gave you a lotto ticket...

I've not much time but I want to get my thoughts out before they vanish, if only so I can look back on them later.

An offer has come to my attention today, an offer that may actually boost my traffic on youtube.  To me it seems like a lotto ticket, a chance to win big or remain as I am.

The demands are resonable and they have results to back up their claim with a quick browse of the internet.  All I have to do is agree to make money, but thats the problem.

I went into this thinking that I would never make money, that I just kind of liked messing around with adobe as something to do and always just loved people looking at my stuff but now that theres a lottery ticket in front of me that sais I could actually win something, all I have to do is try do I want to try?  If I scratch the ticket, win or loose it suddenly becomes about money and legalality of my content.  Doing it just for skills sake doesn't usually result in much a backlash legally so long as you're not making money.

This is just a quick thought but it's something thats been lingering in my head the last two days.  Do you scratch the ticket, admitting its about money, or just go on in obscurity refining your talent?

Maybe I'll just tell myself that being with an organization will help refine my skills since they did promise to teach me stuff...  I think I'll scratch the ticket before long.

When to Ban from minecraft

So you'll probably hear on my next episode of minecraft that we had to ban someone.

I'm curious what you think it takes to ban someone from a server or what others who are reading this might have been banned for that seemed unfair.

Basically the man wasn't participating with the rest of the group as was the point of this co-op minecraft scenario we where running.  He explored large chunks of the map against the server host advicement because it makes the server more difficult to backup.  He did this to loot all the chests nearby.  he went into the twilight area alone without recording and killed the fortress.

All of that is just kinda jerkish but not bannable in my opinion.  The one that did him in i think was when he kept trying to use a mod that currently crashes the server several times, each time being warned not to use it.

Admin said that we can do better for our server which I believe but made me wonder what it would take before I ban someone from a server myself.

New CityCraft! Lots of mayor stuff

f
Just seems like stuff never stops to slow down in this new series!  Day 3 and we've already got a mystery on hands revolving around the mayor.

Also, been getting more comfortable with adobe but I think I'm lacking, wondering if anyone knows any good sites to get sound effect stuff or anything they think this is lacking.  I feel like as much as I do I'm not doing something right or forgetting something I'm not sure.  Just nothing ever feels finished for whatever reason.

CityCraft Ep 2 - Roads and Black Robes

f
So here is the next episode of our minecraft 'CityCraft' where I find out that we may have a bit of an evil wizard problem.  Also spend some time straightening up my build.  There's now a front to the house with a road, yay!

Hello!

So I've joined a group called Midcore Gamers who I gota say are a lot of fun.  They've showed me a fair amount of material and editing tricks as well as taken some of my stuff to make our videos overall better.  Most of all it's great having some creative and enthusastic people to play with!  We've started work on a new series for minecraft called CityCraft.  If you want to learn more about it then just watch my first video, the links seem to be a bit funked right now so this is all I can link here instead of a full embeded video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOkjwea4FQA

Besides this I'm thinking if I want to kick up my Don't Starve series again.  it was a lot of fun and some of the guys from Midcore Gamers where thinking of giving it a go so I may get back into it.  The dark souls series I've been posting doesn't seem to have taken to well with anyone so I plan to slow down on it, maybe one upload a week or something like that it's hard to say.

There are just to many games I want to play.  besides minecraft and Dark Souls, theres Don't Starve, Gnomoria, Terraria, and more and more the more I think about it!  BLAH!

Also want to do more interviews and comics.  What would you ask content creators like youtubers or video game makers if you could ask questions?

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's here, it's here!  Thank god it's finally here!

And no, that's not finnally here like I couldn't wait 2 days for it to come in the mail, that's it's finnally here after years of saving, watching my savings vanish time and time again to utilities, suprise bills, the car and supernatural events the defy sanity.

After all those years of saving I fiiiiinally got the new system!  yay!  I tested it out today and it records like a dream, it handles games flawlessly and I haven't even stuck a good video card in it just yet!  It records great and processes video in a fraction of the time.  I hope to have my first new video up within a few days after I finish meddling with the computers setup.

It is windows 8 and I don't like all the changes but I'm quickly figuring out just how it works and It's really not 'that' bad when you get into it.  within a few days I'll probably not even notice all the insane changes they made.  We'll see, and maybe I can play a game where I die a lot for everyone's amusement.

New Rig New Gig

So finally after saving all this time I managed to get together the funds needed to build a new machine.  more importantly I did it before my car stole my money or the utilities company meter decided to skip a beat and charge me another 900 dollars.

That means that again I'll be able to record new videos very shortly! WOOOT!

I know I haven't done so in a long long while but when you have a machine that one takes half a day to render 20 or 30 minutes of video and then crashes half the time it tries to render said video... you kind of loose interest.  On top of that my room mates have gotten more work/school so they will be out of the house and out of the way more often for me to be as loud and obnoxious as I want hehe.

Already got the next game I want to play picked out, I'll show you all when I remember what it is hehe.

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Been quiet for a while, guess it might just be because I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with all this but that's never gona happen.  I'll just keep throwing stuff around and see where it lands.

I haven't shared this yet but I moved on from Gnomoria to play "Don't Starve".  It's been up for a while and I feel I may do another one since a great many things have changed.  I just wish that I had gotten myself killed and soaked up the experience from surviving over a hundred days before my save got corrupted in the updates!

Besides that, more latley been following the simcity fun.  What a train wreck.  Personally the game doesn't look bad, I just don't like that its probably gona be 60$ to buy the game then 400$ to get all the DLC.  Can't afford that so can't buy it as much as I would want to.

Hey adobe worked!

Ended up getting one more video out on you tube.  I've figured out just enough of the basics inside Adobe to start pushing content.  The cool thing though is I can build my own animations from scratch and the more I use adobe the more tricks I'm learning.  The next video I'm working on I've already made a custom txt animation.  It also means I can make intros and ending sequences and use them between all videos for some level of comformity.  Its really cool.  Anyway, heres the first video I made with it and tomorrow I may have the next with the custom animations and stuffs.

Pushing onward

Lost a lot of momentum recently trying to learn a new program, adobe premiere pro.  It has a lot of cool stuff in it that I've been digesting for a while and I'm excited to use it.  It's very difficult however and I don't intend to put out much new since I want to step back from windows movie maker for something more long term.  Might mean a few days before I put out anything new since I've watched about a dozen tutorials now and my brain passionately objects to learning anything.

Also hearing some people say I need more planning in the videos which I agree.  I'll try to develop more structure in videos as time goes on.

First interview ever

Wooo... took longer than expected but finally got the first interview for our group ever posted up on my friends site.  This first interview is with Robert West, also known as RoboBob creator of Gnomoria.  We talk about their game, one of the newest members of the growing collection of sandbox games available across the net.

If you want to see the interview --> Interview Link
If you want to see the game site --> Gnomoria Link

If you want to see me screw around in Guildwars 2 again...

Interview? OMG INTERVIEW!?

Haha, well today marks a tremendous day for Game Tirade.  Our first interview ever with a game developer has been sent off to the editor of Eccentric Tirade and will be posted sometime today!  ... or tomorrow

I got in touch with the creator of Gnomoria, Robert West, who tells me a little bit about himself, his game and the people who support him.  I feel I've learned a great deal more than I expected but more than just about the game.  I understand a bit more about what goes into interviews and what I'm trying to accomplish with Game Tirade, I hope to put it all to use.

Besides all that, there's another video for you to check out here

Kind of sick

Manager of my store likes to show how tough they are by coming into work no matter how sick they are.  They use this to tell us if they can tough threw it then absolutely we should be able to as well.  This is usually the case because they tend to get the rest of us sick by coming in sick themselves...  So thats what happened to me.  Bit sick and resting but I managed to make one more video for today.  Its uploading at the time I write this so if you don't see it now you should see it soon.

Anyway, I got to go into work... have fun all

Editing takes forever!

Heylo and welcome again to Game Tirade

Right now and for the next two days the website here https://indiegamestand.com/ has Gnomoria available.  If you haven't bought the game yet or maybe just on the fence about it you can now set your own price.  You can pick the game up for a dollar or offer a bit more since some of the proceeds will be supporting the American Red Cross.

Besides that I've been playing a lot more with the stock editor on my windows Movie Maker.  Its all I have to work with for now but its providing a nice easy curve for me to learn so I'll keep working with it for now.  The 3rd episode of Gnomoria, Merchant Obliterator, is up and ready for viewing, you can find it here.  I think it came out a lot better than most the video's I've been able to submit to date but it is decently a process to clean up the mess that is my videos with editing.  I hope to figure out what I want to do music wise soon.  I figure maybe just turn the Gnomoria custom music a bit higher than trying to figure out what I can or cannot play on youtube without getting smacked with some cease and desist order.

Also for anyone who's a fan of Gnomoria and its creator RoboBob I did a quick questioner with him over an email.  I hope to prepare more questions for him in the near future and do a live interview either via skype or a simple chat IM conversation.  We'll be making the questioner public within the next day or so whenever the editor is ready and provide links to it on the main site.  In the mean time, if there are any questions you would like to see on the next questioner or interview, make sure to let me know with a comment.  I'll have an email available within the next day or so as well which I will provide then.  I can honestly say I learned a lot about him and his project and look forward to sharing that all with you.

I'm also working a little bit on the next game my brother turned me onto called Kenshi.  You may have seen some stuff of it already but I've done my first episode with it and I'll link it here now for you to take a look at.  I'll get into a bit more detail about the game at a later point but for now all I can do is share the first episode of Kenshi, Reckless Endangerment.  see ya next time.

Fashionably late, the Gnomoria series starts.

Heylo and here we are again with Game Tirade

Yesterday I had a little bit of trouble uploading videos and today... I had a little bit MORE trouble uploading video's but it seems to all have been resolved.  I was able to upload all my video's just fine and am working at compiling more.  I did some filming of Kenshi and will have that compiled within the next day or so.  At the moment there's another episode of Gnomoria in the oven and hopefully that comes out alright.  I've taken some time to mess with the windows editor, nothing complicated yet, just inserting text and basic animations and stuff.  You should see the results of all that in the next Gnomoria episode tomorrow.  Anyway, here is yesterdays and todays bits of Gnomoria.

Episode 1: Kickstarting Kicking Kingdom

Episode 2: Terraforming

If anyone reading this knows something on this I could use the help.  I wanted to put an animated Gif into the video for a future bit of content I'm working on but I can't find much help with it.  I read that you can put an AVI file into Windows Media Editor fine but even then I'm not certain that I could put anything with a transparency lair into the video without the transparency coming threw as a white or black block.  I don't know, if you do let me know.

Gnomes in the Kicking Kingdom

Heylo and welcome again to Game Tirade

So finally started a new world in Gnomoria leaving my old kingdom behind.  However we've a new project and a new crew and they will be the pioneers to establish the Kicking Kingdom!  Literally, that's what its called.  You can decide exactly what they're kicking but lets just hope they Kick arse in general.  I hoped to upload a video but today we learned that Youtube has a 15 minute limit for new users.  Some might call this a fail, but... well it is, though I'm a bit smarter now for it.  I'll have to see what I can do about that but will probably just go threw and re edit my videos to abide by this limit.  Look at the bottom of this entry for a link to Gnomoria if you're interested

I hope to have some new stuff in the future too.  While I love the game Gnomoria I also want to explore the game Kenshi some more.  I've played some and its not a game I really want to start again from scratch.  Trust me you'll be much happier seeing some of the cool things you get later in the game rather than watching me run back and forth between towns trying to build up stats heh.  I did record however my first run thew of Kenshi.  I may upload the whole thing but I simply took out a snippet of my favorite part.  You may have already seen it on Eccentric Tirades home page, if not then you might enjoy seeing this if you want to see me suffer.  Also check out their website, link should be at the bottom.

And as for other new content well...  I'm waiting on some concept art ;3
